Kagami Hiiragi (柊かがみ)

Kagami is the older fraternal twin sister of Tsukasa. In school, her grades are excellent and she studies very hard. She was even the class president of her class in her first year. She is in a different class than Konata and Tsukasa, but she frequently comes to their class during lunch time to eat with them. Additionally, Kagami chose the humanities course in her second year so that she could be with her friends, but she was the only one separated into a different classroom; the same occurred in her third year. Kagami, seldom referred to as "Kagamin", is a bit egotistic, but is somewhat weak in cooking.

Kagami's physique is average. She has long light purple hair, and wears a ribbon tied into pig-tails, and her sharp eyes are light violet. Kagami is the stereotypical "tsukkomi" character, however, she is prone to become shy at times, hence being a tsundere character as well.

Much like Konata, Kagami likes video games, but plays a different genre than Konata: Kagami likes to play scrolling shooters. She loves to read light novels, but she is lonely that no one around her has the same interest as her.

Tsukasa Hiiragi (柊つかさ)

Tsukasa is the younger fraternal twin sister of Kagami and lives in a six-member family household with her parents. She is in the same class as Konata though isn't good at studying or at sports, but excels in cooking.

Tsukasa's physique is a little smaller than average. She has short, light-purple hair, and wears a ribbon like a head band in it, and her droopy eyes are light violet. She is portrayed as a stereotypical klutz and as a "healing-type" character. She spends a lot of time sleeping.

 

Akira Kogami (小神 あきら)

Akira is a junior high school student who is also the captain of the Lucky ☆ Star informational ad section called "Lucky Channel" in the Comptiq magazine. Akira's appearance is as follows: she has short salmon pink hair, she has an ahoge towards the right side of her head, and has golden yellow eyes. Her school uniform is too big on her as her hands are too short for its sleeves. Akira tends to be very energetic, and her chief form of greeting is "Oha-Lucky~!" Akira is a veteran voice actress who occasionally falls out of character whenever she gets annoyed by Minoru Shiraishi, giving a raw voiced, violent and Chain Smoking personality. 

Yuuji Sakamoto (坂本雄二)

Yuuji Sakamoto is the class representative of class F. In the series, the class rep position is assigned to the smartest student of that class. He is cool, collected, and exhibit surprisingly high intelligence and foresight unexpected of a student from class F. In volume 1, his strategies and tactics had helped class F to attain victory after victory, until the duels with class A in which he overestimated his ability in elementary school level Japanese history. Yuuji was once known as a child prodigy in his childhood. The only reason why he ended up in class F was because he did not study at all and he holds the strong belief that grades are not everything. However, due to the consequences he 'suffered' from his defeat from Shōko Kirishima, his childhood friend and also the top student of his level, he became motivated to study again, and in the later volumes, his Shoukanjuu became reasonably strong in just a few months due to his test scores improving by leaps and bounds.

It is implied that he is actually smarter than his childhood friend, Shouko. After the tournament in volume 2, he acquired a platinum bracelet which allows him to control the size of the force field of his Shoukanjuu, allowing him to form a one-man army choke point since humans cannot pass through this force field.

He bears no ill intention towards Shouko, but due to her unyielding obsession with marrying him since their childhood days, he sees her as having a few loose screws in her mind, and fears to even think of his future if he does marry her. In the anime, its suggested that they act like a married couple though she tends to treat him as a slave. Yuuji is close to Akihisa to the point where they can actually communicate without any words. A gag in the series is that Yuuji will attempt to decipher a complicated expression on Akihisa and comment on a series of events that must have taken place. While he meant it as a joke, he is always a spot-on when this happens. His Shoukanjuu wears an outfit that makes it look like a punk, and is armed with brass knuckles.
 

Tamazuki Inugamigyoubu (隠神刑部 玉章)

Leader of the 88 kiyakou of the four kingdoms, his father is the head of the 808 (Shikoku Hachijuukakki Yakou) Tanuki. He is able to inspire his men through his charisma but sees them as disposable, he sees through Rikuo's power and seeks to return the world to darkness, even inviting Rikuo to join his group behind him in order to do so. He gained his power by killing his allies and brothers using the Maō's Hammer, the very sword that defeated his clan. He was defeated by Rikuo and spared on his father's wishes on the condition he never leave Shikoku and he holds a memorial for those he killed.

Hinagiku Katsura  (桂ヒナギク)

Hinagiku is the current student council president, and kendo club president at Hakuou Academy, the school that Nagi, Isumi, and eventually Hayate attends. She is fifteen (later sixteen) and is an expert with swords, specifically kendo. She first meets Hayate when he gets lost on the huge Hakuou campus and invites him to the top of the clocktower, where only student council elites are allowed. She allows Hayate to call her by her first name and also seems to be infatuated by Hayate and his attractive personality.

Hinagiku is sometimes referred to as being rather masculine for a girl by other characters in the series. Miki suggests this is because Hinagiku is seen as being "cooler" than the boys, and the fact that she was rather domineering at a younger age. Her athleticism, competitiveness, and leadership position all also probably contribute to this view. Despite having such strong traits, Hinagiku is actually terrified of heights.

It is later revealed that Hinagiku suffers from a past nearly identical to that of Hayate. She, along with her sister, had also been abandoned by their biological parents who left them with a debt of 80 million yen (approximately $660,000 US) shortly before Hinagiku's sixth birthday. Following this, her sister, Yukiji, managed to pay off the debt, and the two of them went to live with the Katsura family, as Mr. Katsura had been Yukiji's elementary school teacher. 

In episode 13 of Hayate no Gotoku Season 2, the final episode of 'Hinagiku Arc', Hinagiku finally realizes that she is deeply in love with Hayate. This is parallel to the manga at chapter 98.

Hayate Ayasaki (綾崎 ハヤテ)

Hayate has had to work to support his parent's bad habits since the age of eight, always moving from job to job, as he is fired when he is discovered to be underage. Hayate's dad is unemployed and his mother is a compulsive gambler, which leads inevitably to their bankruptcy.

The characters in this series continually remark that Hayate looks poor and needy. He believes that everyone hates him, except children, though he doesn't think of children as being anything other than friends. He can also play the violin. Despite his terrible luck, Hayate lives up to the title of "combat butler" as he is proficient in repelling attacks from almost anything, including other butlers.

Masahiko Tsukijigaoka (月地ヶ岡真彦)

He is a pâtissier (also known as the pâtissier ghost) that died on his way to work one day. His ghost lingers around Karasumori, and though Yoshimori Sumimura tries repeatedly to convince him to pass on, he refuses. The two become friends, and Masahiko gives Yoshimori baking tips to help him with his dream of making a candy castle for Tokine.

Haruhi Suzumiya (涼宮 ハルヒ)

Haruhi Suzumiya, a first year student at North High School (in novels 1-8), and second year (in the 9th and latest novel), can be characterized as funny, eccentric, and somewhat unpredictable. In the series, she is introduced declaring her interests in aliens, espers and time travelers and does not care for 'ordinary' human beings. The last thing on her mind is a normal high school life. With a burning desire to find such phenomena in the world, she is generally unapproachable and finds ordinary people boring and uninteresting. As a result of this, many of her classmates choose to avoid and confront her. She deals with her emotions by creating a parallel universe, where she inadvertently releases transparent creatures who tear up and destroy everything that comes into contact with them. Espers are the ones who can stop these creatures by cutting and destroying them, because if these creatures are left alone destroying everything as well as the outer barrier it could affect the outside world. She also likes to dress up Mikuru in random outfits.

Kyon is the first character to engage with her in a serious conversation. From this encounter, she gradually begins to soften up to others and starts to open up with her classmates. Later on, Haruhi took Kyon against his will and forced him to help her start the SOS Brigade, thus she has taken an unknown interests to Kyon later in the series. It is hinted that one of the reasons as to why Haruhi opened up to Kyon was that he resembled John Smith; John Smith and Kyon are the same person.

She is noted as smart, athletic, and naturally talented in any extra-curricular activities. She once joined every activity club in her school and quit because she found them boring, despite pleas by the club members for her membership. Her musical talent was highlighted when she stood in as the emergency lead singer and guitarist, along with Yuki, for the band ENOZ during the school festival.

Her childhood is cited as an originator for her interests in strange phenomena. While attending a baseball game with her family, she was shocked to see the vast number of people who had come to see the game. Before then, she had often thought of herself and her life as being special and interesting, yet then came to realize that they were just ordinary normal occurrences and habits and that she is just one of many living human in all of Japan in which Japan is just part of Earth. Consequently, she believed then that there must be at least one person in the world who is living an interesting and truly unique life and sought out to effectively be that person thus motivating her to seek out the extraordinary.

After this realization she became notorious in middle school for doing odd things which included painting strange hieroglyphs all over the school grounds using a field marker and placing all the school desks in the halls. Additionally, she accepted and rejected every guy who had ever asked her out, the longest lasting a week and the shortest being five minutes. She only seeks relationships with aliens, espers, and time travelers. This shows the depth of her interest in finding non-humans and strange phenomena.

In actuality, Haruhi is believed to be either a crack in the space-time continuum, the first technological singularity to be spontaneously born in the universe, or some sort of deity, depending on point of view. This belief stems from a massive spontaneous universal event that occurred three years prior to Haruhi meeting Kyon, of which Haruhi is said to be the cause. The event attracted the attention of three prominent groups: the Extraterrestrial Integrated Data Entity, time travelers from a distant future, and a group of espers known as the "Agency".

Her powers which are capable of altering, creating, or destroying reality are triggered by her emotions and inner desires. It's been theorized by the espers that the current universe may be just one in a string that Haruhi had subconsciously created. In order to relieve stress whenever she becomes too emotionally unstable, patches of alternate dimension referred to as "closed space" are created and within resides gigantic blue entities that destroy the surrounding area. Despite having these powers Haruhi is completely oblivious to them or the existence of aliens, time travelers, and espers.

Personality
At first, Haruhi seems very indifferent and cold but underneath that front she is very spontaneous, upbeat, and hyperactive. Her determination, persistence, and resourcefulness drive her endeavors of finding strange phenomenon and promoting the SOS Brigade. Because of her dedication, she becomes hot-headed when things don't go her way. Hand-in-hand with her cleverness and creativity, and a certain ruthlessness, even seeming amorality, she can often get what she wants, an example of such is when she blackmailed the Computer Society President into giving her a brand new computer for the SOS Brigade. Haruhi tends to pursue her goals regardless of who gets in the way, or is hurt, such as Mikuru in the aforementioned blackmail. She also has a tendency to be jealous and angry when Kyon gets too friendly with any girl. Evidently, the universe was almost destroyed and recreated when Haruhi's jealousy was pushed too far.

Haruhi also has a very competitive personality and accepts without hesitation any challenge that crosses her, regardless of difficulty or time constraint. Her constant optimism and over-confidence make her seem arrogant. She has very high standards and won't accept anything less than perfection from herself and her Brigade. She places a lot of trust in her Brigade members, especially Kyon, to get the task done whatever it may be. This can sometimes make her seem selfish and unkind.

She is not shy and often attracts a lot of attention to the point of not minding changing clothes in front of various people, more so when her SOS Brigade is in mind. When it comes to Mikuru she is very physically playful. She often comments on Mikuru's attractiveness and seems to find a kind of enjoyment in exploiting it to her own ends, often through forcing Mikuru into and out of various costumes such as a bunny girl costume as if she were a human dress-up doll.

Haruhi also seems to hate showing signs of vulnerability to others. Following her concert performance at the school's culture festival when she and Yuki filled in for two members of the band ENOZ, Haruhi showed awkwardness towards the band members when they thanked her the following day. As Kyon pointed out, Haruhi was not used to receiving praise from others because of how mischievous she regularly acts towards others because of her abnormal interests.

Though many of Haruhi's efforts are devoted to finding supernatural beings, she does not actually believe in them. This is suggested by Itsuki during the first light novel, that Haruhi does not force himself, Yuki, or Mikuru to reveal themselves because her commonsense will not let her believe that they exist. In fact, between the first and second light novels, when Kyon tries to convince Haruhi that the other SOS Brigade members are more than they appear, she does not believe him. Later, she bases The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina on Kyon's story.

SOS Brigade role
Haruhi is the founder and "Brigade Chief" of the SOS Brigade, or Saving The World by Overloading it with Fun Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade (世界を大いに盛り上げるための涼宮ハルヒの団, Sekai o Ōini Moriageru Tame no Suzumiya Haruhi no Dan?). She was unable to find any existing club suitable to her preferences. She made the group in order to find and have fun with aliens, espers, and time travelers. Upon creation, she names herself as its leader. Her method of finding and recruiting members is to "voluntarily arrest" them then force them to join.

The SOS Brigade is very precious to her and has stated to Kyon that she has no intention of yielding her position as Chief to anyone else. She will go to any lengths, even by exploiting the members, to bring attention and support for her Brigade such as procuring room and materials, maintaining their website, participating in sports tournaments, organizing activities such as city-wide searches for strange phenomenon among other things. She wrote, produced, and directed the Brigade's amateur-movie The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina for the school festival.

However, unbeknownst to her is the true purpose of the SOS Brigade: to prevent Haruhi from becoming bored, as her boredom would bring about the end of the world as the SOS Brigade's members know it. Kyon also happens to be a very important person in her life. For whatever reason, Haruhi "chose" Kyon. This is first said by Yuki, then restated by Mikuru, and Itsuki as well. She often relies on and trusts Kyon with anything. Kyon is the only person whom she has been open with, and when she briefly created a "new world", he was the only person she had brought over from the "old world". These are all made evident in the fourth novel The Vanishment of Haruhi Suzumiya, where she remained at Kyon's side for the three days he was in a coma due to a small accident. However, he is apparently worth far more to her than even she realizes. Unknown to her, the person she knew as John Smith, who "helped" her draw weird symbols at the schoolyard of East Junior High (her old school) at night on Tanabata three years prior, is in fact, Kyon from the present time, sent back in time. Furthermore, his time there unintentionally created an alternate timeline where no SOS Brigade existed, Yuki, Mikuru, Ryoko, Itsuki and Haruhi were normal humans and the latter two never transferred to North High, thus no SOS Brigade. Only by going back to that night again was Kyon able to set things right. Finally, should Kyon reveal to Haruhi that he is John Smith, it would radically change everything, as he stated to the Integrated Data Entity through Yuki.
 

Kana Ienaga (家長 カナ)

Kana is Rikuo's childhood friend and neighbor. She is an easily frightened girl who doesn't like the idea of youkai, yet ironically she often becomes embroiled in youkai-related incidents. She is hinted to have some affection for Rikuo, as she becomes jealous when she sees him spending time with Tsurara, and undeniably falls for his "night" form after he rescues her. She often worries about Rikuo's mental health, and is rather keen at noticing when he is upset over something but trying to keep it hidden.

Teito Klein (テイト＝クライン)

The hero of the story. A former slave captured by the Barsburg Empire and considered to be the military academy's star pupil. His homeland is the former Kingdom of Raggs, and he was raised as an orphan in a church. It is later revealed that Teito had been entrusted with the Eye of Mikhail when the Empire invaded his home country, and he is the son of the former king of Raggs.

At the start of the manga, Teito makes a promise with his best (and only) friend, Mikage, that they would die together. Unfortunately, Mikage gives up his life to save Teito from the Empire. Teito, shaken, swears revenge even though Mikage told him not to. At the 7th District church he starts studying to become a priest, so he can gain a priest's advantages on his way to revenge -- free room and board in any inn in the Empire, and less stringent inspections at borders. However, along his way he gets mixed up in the affairs of the Gods because of the Eye of Mikhail, and this eventually brings him grief.

Teito has a slave tattoo on his back from when he was first captured, and wears a slave collar around his neck, put there by Ayanami, that will explode if he gets separated from Frau, the collar's master, for 48 hours.

Hidetora Toujou (東条英虎)

The fourth Touhoushinki member. He is by far the strongest member of the Touhoushinki (his strength in comparison to Kunieda is not confirmed, though it can be implied that he is stronger than her indirectly from their other fights). Toujou has an unexpected soft side towards smaller creatures and babies, though said creatures do not feel similarly towards him. He is mostly bored with weaklings and is always looking for a good fight, which subsequently leads to his interest towards Oga. He works multiple jobs and sometimes has to miss school because of them. He can feel Saotome using his demon power, which shows he has notable strength for a human.

He appears to know the female horsemen from Saint Ishiyama Academy (Shizuka Nanami) quite well. She referred to him as Tora when they met after the volleyball match.

He sees Oga as a potential rival, while Oga sees him as an opportunity to lay off Baby Be'el on someone else. Oddly enough, despite his appearance, he seems to have a thing for cute animals. He is often absent from school due to working several part-time jobs. One of his jobs is construction work.
Toujou usualy behaves very calm, much different from the usual delinquents that frequent Ishiyama High. Having a good control over his own emotions and being known to be very bottled up: no one knows what he is really thinking at the moment. But the most striking part of his personality is, of course, his love for good fights-- a trait that he also shares with Oga. When the oportunity to face a worthy opponent arises, Toujou will think very little about any kind of consequences that his actions may provoke, something that gets very obvious on his first bout against Izuma. Another thing he also shares with Oga on terms of personality is his lack of intellect and focus on more passive matters, being, evidently, more interested on resolving any kind of problem he has to face with his own bare hands. He also has a fond to cute or little animals and things, like cats or even Baby Be'el - when they first met. Tojo is exceedingly laid back (belying his true ferocity) and is often unresponsive to things that seem abnormal. Even after being kidnapped and undergoing a dimensional transfer, he remained asleep. He is also described as a good guy by normal standards.

Takayuki Furuichi (古市貴之)

Takayuki Furuichi is one of the main protagonists of Beelzebub.

Furuichi is Oga's best friend and along with him is a 1st year at Ishiyama High. After finding out about Oga's baby he joins him up in his search for a new parent. He is actually the most normal person in the anime/manga because he tries to add common sense to everything. He also has no powers.

Furuichi has silver/white hair and he is usually seen wearing the highschool uniform. He often retains a calm face but when Oga or other characters do something outrageous he turns insane in a comical fashion.

Although Furuichi does retain a rational, passive and calm demeanor, he usually reacts in an insane (yet comical) fashion whenever a character does something outrageous. He also has a wild imagination when it comes to women, always fantasying about them in a overly perverted manner. And despite his desire to hit it off with the ladies, he often fails to please them or get their attention because most of them, demon or human, are stronger than him and many moments of comic relief in the series arise when his advances on girls get frustrated, particularly by Alaindelon. He especially envies Oga for being the object of Kunieda's love and for living with Hilda under the same roof.
 

Tatsumi Oga (男鹿辰巳)

Oga is easily agitated and is always willing to fight, unless it will bring out the Zebub spell. He appears to have his own skewed idea of what a 'man' should be like, and attempts to pass on these ideals to Be'el. Despite being called evil by almost every character of the series, he has shown to have a calmer and, if only slighlty, warmer side to him, shown when he speaks with Hilda about his position as Be'el parent and assuring Lamia that if Be'el ever got sick again he would call her immediately. He also seems to care, at least to some degree, about his classmates, as he quickly stopped Nene when she was about to fight Mikki, telling her she would lose if she did. He and Mikki seem to have some type of history together, yet Oga claims not to remember his old classmate. It is unknown if this is the truth as Mikki does not act suprised at Oga's statement. Oga, along with Furuichi, is an avid fan of the video game series "Dragon Quest" regularly making references to the series in the manga.

Sylvette Suede (シルベット・スエード)

Umur                       : 11 tahun

Gauche's younger, paralyzed sister. Born on the Day of Flicker, like Lag. Her brother left her to go to Akatsuki, and eventually disappeared. When she would meet Lag, years later, she had claimed to have given up on Gauche being alive. She later learns he is alive, and Lag promises to find him. After the encounter with Noir outside Honey Waters, when Lag returns home, Sylvette throws him a party because he had found Gauche, as promised. She rents Gauche's room to Lag, Niche, and Steak, and she makes Dolls to cover the rent and expenses.
 

Gauche Suede (ゴーシュ・スエード)

Umur                  : 18 tahun

Lag's rescuer, who first appears in chapter 1. He is the letter bee that finds young Lag Seeing marked as a letter in "Coza Bel", a small town in the "Yodaka District" (The low class district in Amberground). He has to deliver to "Cambel Litus" a town also on the "Yodaka District" so he can join his aunt which was trusted to take care of him from the person who wrote Lag's letter data. Gauche is also a a caring and enthusiastic letter bee, he is trying to become the "Head Bee" (Captain of the letter bees) so he has enough money to help his sister and live peacefully.
 

He is said to be "missing" when Lag asks about him 5 years after their meeting. Later, he appears before Lag as a marauder, someone who snatches letters away from letter bees. While crossing from Yuusari to Akatsuki, he lost his memories after returning from "the light" alive and is renamed, Noir.

In chapter 28, Lag shoots him through his heart with a heart bullet and his memories are restored, but he is left in a critical condition. He is currently recovering.

At the end of chapter 37 Gauche awakens.

 

Ryuunosuke Kurosaki (黒崎 龍之介)

His nickname is "Shiroyan." He also used to be a delinquent in middle school known as White Demon.

Kinoshita Hideyoshi (木下秀吉)

He is one of the rarely found people with ordinary minds in Class F, but because of that he's often pressured by his classmates. According to grandpa's words, he is owner of an unbelievable beauty, so much that he's often called a girl--but really, he is a fine man. His loveliness even nominated him in the list of 'Guys who would look good in girl's outfit' sponsored by the Journalism club, but was dropped from the ranking after all, 'unfair' being the reason. At the end even girls come to forget his real gender, leaving Akihisa as the only one who recognizes him as a guy (though sometimes even Akihisa sees him as a girl, because of his appearance). In case of a training camp (for the safety of his own and the others) he is given a private separate dressing room and bathroom. In the school, there is a rumor that Hideyoshi is actually of the 3rd gender, dubbed "Hideyoshi". As in Akihisa's case, Hideyoshi's photos are secretly sold and bought--the price of his photo being 5 times higher than photos of Akihisa in girl outfits. He feels regretful for the fact he is not treated as a guy by many. However, looking at how he blushes his face when treated as the opposite sex by Akihisa, delights when is called a fool's friend, puts in tackles that are subtly off the point--it seems he doesn't hate it so much either.
As a conclusion, this person is too not so normal at all.

He takes part in the Drama club, and his specialty is vocal mimicry--be that a girl's or a boy's voice. Even though in many cases he is not too willing to act, once the situation starts he perfectly deals with his given role, thanks to his excessive drama spirit. Part of the reason why he is in Class F is because he got himself absorbed too much into drama and couldn't keep up the grades. It seems he is especially weak in Classic Literature.

In contrast to his lovely outlook, he has an extremely strong stomach('Steel Stomach' as called by himself) that can even take in a potato seed. However even such stomach cannot stand against Mizuki's mighty lunch.

His name originates from 'Toyotomi Hideyoshi' and his old name 'Kinoshita Toukichirou'.

His shoukanjuu (summoned beast)'s equipments are blue pants and Naginata. Occult version is Nekomata (ghost cat girl), obviously influenced from the nature 'Cuteness'.

As a side note he ranked 1st place of Male Characters, and also 10th of the Female Characters from 2009 version of "Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! (このライトノベルがすごい!)", scoring a cumulative 2nd place from all characters--a truly impressive result.

Ika Musume (イカ娘)

A squid girl who claims to be "A Messenger of the Sea". Frustrated about her ocean being polluted by human beings, she planned to conquer the world to exact revenge on humanity. However, she soon realizes that she doesn't stand a chance against anyone, as she is clueless about the surface and is alone in her conquest. As a result of breaking a side of a beach house's wall during her invasion, she is forced to work there and learns more about humans and their ways.

She is known to be very stubborn, insists that eventually she'll be able to conquer humanity, has a fear of sharks and whales, loves shrimp, can spew out ink at will, and can use her blue hair as tentacles.
 

Suzuna Ayuzawa (鮎沢 紗奈)

Arietta (アリエッタ)

Arietta is a timid girl who was raised by Ligers after losing her parents to a tidal wave, which wiped out the Isle of Feres. Since then, she has learned to control monsters and animals to aid her in battle. She also specializes in dark based fonic artes such as Bloody Howling and Negative Gate and she also casts defensive fonic artes such as Barrier and Sharpness on her monster companions in battle. In her two last battle the player can steal the Time-Traveling Girl and the Rare Genius from her as accessories for Anise. Arietta was once the Fon Master Guardian of Ion, and despises Anise for "taking Ion away" from her. Arietta wishes to kill Luke's party for killing the Liger Queen early in the game, which Arietta refers to as "Mommy".

In reality, the Ion that accompanies the party is one of many replicas of the original. Arietta was not aware of this, nor of the fact that she was removed as Fon Master Guardian to keep the replica's identity secret, and Largo suggests that she would have committed suicide if she had learned of what had happened to the original Ion. Having nowhere to go, Arietta joined Van's six God-Generals. Van also turned the slowly sinking Isle of Feres into Arietta's secret private boat, which also once served as Van's headquarters. Following Ion's death, Arietta blamed Anise (although Anise was partly responsible, as she had been forced into betraying Ion by Grand Maestro Mohs) and challenged her (and the party) to a duel to the death, which she lost. Tragically, Arietta died without realizing the Ion she sought after so much was not the one she loved.

Aoi Yamada (山田 葵)

Aoi is a mysterious, self-proclaimed 16-year-old girl who Otoo meets on his travels to find his missing wife. He brings her back to Wagnaria where she starts working as a waitress and living in Wagnaria's attic. While she has great confidence in herself, during work she is an unhelpful troublemaker who gets yelled at by other staff members, especially Souta. Since she is in training, her position among the staff is low, which she complains about. She is bad with dealing with Souta's constant complaints about her, but she does write down some of his suggestions (along with idle complaints). She yearns for the idea of having a family, especially towards Otoo whom she sees as an ideal father figure, and goes as far as to apply to be adopted by him. Her favorite food is natto.
 

Nagi Kannagi

Nagi is a goddess who wakes up after years of slumber with Jin's unexpected help. Her mission as a deity is to cleanse the impurities of the world, but as her powers have weakened over time, her body is easily harmed by them, and she ends up having to do it with the help of Jin and branding an improvised exorcist staff created using a magical girl-themed toy baton.

Ren Kannagi (神凪 煉)

Kazuma's younger brother. He looks up to his Ayano Nee-sama and practically idolises his Kazuma Nii-sama, stating that one day he hopes to be as strong as him so he can protect everyone. Ren has the appearance of a bishōnen, which sometimes earns him the contempt of some of his male classmates. Even so, Ren appears to be very popular at his school, excelling in his studies and in his athletic abilities. His biggest admirers include Suzuhara Kannon and Serizawa Tatsuya.

Ren later falls in love with a girl named Ayumi, only to find out that she is just a clone created to be sacrificed at a ritual. Even after saving her from the ritual, she still dies due to having a short life span, but not before she can tell him that she also loves him. Despite Ren's feelings of inadequacy early on in the series, Ayumi's death inspires Ren to become stronger so he can protect the ones he loves.

Ren's power is the Golden Flame, said to have the largest purification effect.

 

Yui Hirasawa (平沢 唯)

Main character, guitarist, lead vocalist. Having misunderstood that "light music" equals "easy music" (like whistling), she joined the Light Music Club and picked up guitar with absolutely no prior experience. She is the type of person who doesn't read manuals and relies on her own intuition and self taught approaches.

Yui is a girl who's easily distracted by cute things and tasty food. She's a crybaby but cheers up easily if she gets some sweets. She eats a lot of sweets but she does not gain as much as she eats, she said to herself. In many ways some may say she's a child, and making sure she practices is a problem. When Yui takes good care of something, like her electric guitar- Gitah, she sleeps with it, plays dress up with it, and even also have tea time with it. When she wants to remember something, she forgets everything else. Yui's energy seems to come from cake. She is a clumsy, scatterbrain but optimistic and kind-hearted.

Yui gets good grades in school but is easily distracted by trivialities. She has her younger sister Ui, who is very mature and acts as the "older sister" of Yui, to take care of her and keep herself in line. She has a very easy-going nature, but has incredible concentration when hyped, though this is only limited to 3-4 subjects at a time. Despite all her flaws, Yui is still a fundamentally good-hearted girl who openly expresses love with hugs, holding hands and adorable nicknames (most notably "Azu-nyan" for Azusa), and once devoted to something she is loyal to a fault, and can display near-genius levels of competence to the subject of devotion, as shown by her perfect score in the makeup exams to return to the band. She has perfect pitch and thus can tune her guitar by ear flawlessly. She is the group's main vocalist, although she is known to forget her lyrics in mid-performance, as well as overdoing things, making her unable to perform sometimes. She is the sort of person who learns by being shown, rather than by having read about it. Yui shows this lack of technical knowledge when she does not know what a palm mute or vibrato is when Azusa suggests the use of one when teaching her, but could use one in her music.

Tsumugi, often referred to as 'Mugi' by her friends, is a wealthy girl with a gentle and sweet personality who plays a Korg Triton Extreme 76-key keyboard, though she is also seen playing a Korg RK-100 keytar in the closing credits of the first season. She originally intended to join the choir club, but joins the light music club instead after receiving an invitation and encouragement from both Mio and Ritsu.Tsumugi is considered a piano prodigy since she has been playing the piano since she was four and has experience in winning various piano contests. Mugi has long, pale blonde hair, blue eyes, unusually large eyebrows, which apparently run in her family and a fair complexion that the other characters do not have, but she does not get sunburned. She is the daughter of a company president, and her family has several villas in various places around Japan (and even one in Finland).Since her father also owns a maid café, she often brings confectionery and an assortment of sweets and pastries to the club room, and she diligently makes tea with a tea set which is kept in their club room. Despite her wealth, she is fascinated by and finds joy in "normal" activities, such as ordering fast food, sharing french fries with her club mates,holding down part-time jobs and haggling over prices.Tsumugi displays a rebellious streak occasionally, diverting from her normally well-behaved and mature demeanor to the surprise of the others. She also displays a childlike eagerness from time to time, and possesses unusually high strength, being able to effortlessly carry around her own keyboard, Ritsu's drums, amplifiers, and at one point beating an arm-wrestling game in an arcade.

Tsumugi is often entranced by the sight of two girls interacting closely together, sometimes imagining something more risqué in her head. The series sometimes indicates that Mugi has a crush on their teacher, Sawako Yamanaka. While a lot of things do not bother her, she is fairly conscious about her weight (just like Mio), and she gets a bit anxious when her family's staff start spoiling her friends during villa visits. She later begins learning how to play the guitar from Azusa. Tsumugi has a childhood friend several years younger than her named Sumire Saitō who is a daughter of the family that serves the Kotobuki household. Tsumugi grew up home schooled, and therefor spent very little time in the outside world. Because of their close friendship Sumire would purchase everyday items like manga for Tsumugi that she was not normally allowed to see. Tsumugi was rather taken by some of the yuri manga she received which may have influenced her later perceptions about relationships. When Sumire started high school, Tsumugi wanted her to experience the light music club on her own, but due to Sumire's shyness Tsumugi came up with the excuse to send her to the club room to pick up the tea sets that had been left there and told Sawako when Sumire did join that it was okay to leave the tea sets there.

 Rikuo Nura (奴良 リクオ)

Rikuo Nura is 3/4 human and 1/4 youkai. He is the grandson of Nurarihyon and Youhime and the son of Wakana Nura and Rihan Nura.

Due to having youkai blood in his lineage, Rikuo has two forms: one in which he takes a human form, and another where his youkai blood takes over and he becomes a full youkai. The former is frequently called his "day" form, whereas the latter is called his "night" form, as originally he was only able to maintain it during darkness.

Rikuo was originally reluctant to accept his youkai blood and his role as the successor to the Nura clan because he was teased at school for talking about youkai. As he ages, he realizes he has the ability to protect both humans and youkai because of his heritage, and acknowledges himself as the third leader of the Nura clan.

Rikuo has officially exchanged sakazuki with Zen, Kubinashi, Yuki Onna, Jami, Kappa, Kurotabou, and Aotabou.

Yuki Onna is Rikuo's trusted attendants. She follows him to school under a human guise known as Tsurara Oikawa. As her name indicates, she is a Yuki Onna youkai. Around the Nura House, she sometimes acts as a cook who makes delicious but usually chilled or cold food. Her eyes are dark blue while in human form and golden while in youkai form.

She is fiercely loyal to Rikuo and will do anything for him. She gets visibly jealous when Rikuo mentions Kana and loves Rikuo deeply, though it is not clear if her love is romantic.

Akihisa Yoshii (吉井明久)

 The main protagonist and the storyteller of the series.
2nd Grade in Fumizuki Gakuen's Highschool, F-Class student.

Although he denies it, he is a rarely found 'fool' who even his own parents call him as "the fool over all the world." Not only are his grades the lowest, but he's really so stupid that he is titled the "Kansatsu Shobunsha (under observation)" from the school. For him his own safety is the most important thing and does not hesitate to use the most cowardly ways if needed. However he also has a righteous heart that can stand up against for other friends (except Yuuji).

On the outside he is quite a bishounen, but is frequently thought (mostly by female students) to look better in a girl's outfit, and such photos and merchandise of him are secretly sold by Mutsurini--dubbed the hidden idol "Aki-chan".

He admires Mizuki but does not even dream of receiving love from her. While Minami has a heart for Yoshii, he thinks that he is hated by her after a series of events that almost killed him.

He entered Fumizuki Gakuen because his parents thought it was cheap. Yoshii's parents live overseas because of work, and for this reason he lives by himself. With nobody looking after him, he used up all his money for personal use and therefore was living in a poverty. His main food used to be salt and water--until his older sister returned back to Japan. Thanks to her supervision he couldn't spend money as he wished so his meals became normal once again.

However because his sister and mother's housework abilities were zero, Yoshii is quite an expert when it comes to such areas. He is especially skilled in cooking.

He is right-handed but he used to be a lefty (so says he).

Although his shoukanjuu's battle level is the lowest, he can comfortably stand up against high-class shoukanjuus thanks to his fluent ability to control it. However, because he is the Kansatsu Shobunsha, the fatigue and damage experienced by his shoukanjuu is returned to himself, he tries to avoid summoning during battles if not necessary.

Shoukanjuu's weapon is a modified Gakuran and a wooden sword. The Occult version is "Dullahan (headless knight)", influenced from the feature that 'No head=fool'.
As told by Gakuen Principal, he is the one that is "distorting the essence of the Test Summon System".

As a side note, Yoshii placed 8th of the male characters and 13th overall in the 2009 edition of "Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!".

Sakura Hanazono (花園 さくら)

A good friend of Misaki's and one of the few female students at Seika High, Sakura is friendly and cheerful and, like the rest of the girls, relies on Misaki for protection from the wild behaviour of the boys.

She is quite popular amongst the boys, but frequently rejects their confessions; in particular, she’s rejected ex-rugby captain Masaru Gouda (剛田将, Gōda Masaru) one hundred times. According to Shizuko, Sakura falls in love without carefully considering what the person is really like, as exampled by her persistent feelings for the two-faced, womanising singer Kuuga of a popular band from nearby Yumesaki High.

She has high respect for Misaki and despite her constant happy and tolerant attitude, defends Misaki when Kuuga insults her.

Yoshimori Sumimura (墨村良守)

Yoshimori is the 22nd Kekkaishi of the Sumimura family. Throughout the series, Yoshimori is portrayed as a lazy, stubborn, headstrong individual who strives to protect his family and friends, especially Tokine, who he's had feelings for since childhood. When Yoshimori was much younger he often cried a lot and strongly dislikes being a Kekkaishi. Yoshimori's attitude greatly changed, however, after Tokine's arm was injured by an ayakashi that Yoshimori failed to eliminate. At the beginning of the series, he is often seen baking, an activity he often finds more important to him than his duty as a kekkaishi. He dreams of becoming a patissier, but is often chastised by his grandfather for this hobby.

Yoshimori's skills as a Kekkaishi differ from those of his counterpart, Tokine. Due to his rash and headstrong personality, Yoshimori has always fallen behind Tokine in terms of speed and accuracy. However, in terms of sheer power and stamina, Yoshimori excels. He is capable of creating extremely powerful and large kekkai, kekkai which Tokine is either incapable of forming or those which would quickly exhaust her. Throughout the series, observations had been made by Sumimura Shigemori and Sumimura Masamori that Yoshimori has an enormous wellspring of latent abilities in his kekkai. It has also been noted that Yoshimori is able to activate zekkai without any particular training beforehand. However, his zekkai could only be powered to its full potential in moments when his emotions overflow their boundaries.

Only three occasions had been shown with him using his fully powered zekkai in the current running of the series: once while fighting against Kaguro, while saving his brother Masamori from getting hit by a fatal attack, and after Hiura is severely injured. This state rejects everything he doesn't like including death. It is later revealed by Hazama that this is actually a different technique entirely, called Shinkai, which up until then he was unable to use unless a powerful being lent him the power to trigger it without the necessary training..

The death of Gen has also drastically changed his views, leading him to desire become more powerful. He sees Hiura in a similar state as Gen, and told Hiura that if he wants to kill someone, kill him first. Yoshimori didn't trust either at first but began to warm up to them as they fought together.

Yoshimori's power has recently undergone a significant change. At the behest of his grandfather, Yoshimori underwent special training with Shimano, a two-tailed cat spirit, to learn a technique that could untap the full potential of his power. After several weeks of training, Yoshimori learns to enter a mental state called musou, in which he is distanced from emotion and in a state of pure focus. While in musou, not only does Yoshimori's efficiency with power increases exponentially, he also gains speed and accuracy greater than that possessed by Tokine. Yoshimori is now training to enter "ultimate musou", a state in which not only will his full power be unlocked, but will enable him to summon his "landlord", a powerful guardian spirit which serves as an anchor to his heart/emotions. He is referred to as a sympathizer for Karasumori, he can communicate directly with the landlord as such.

As of chapter 266 Yoshimori has summoned his landlord, Shiguma, and can enter "Musou" state at will. In this state, Yoshimori not only can create seemingly indestructible kekkai, but also create large numbers of them with no visible signs of fatigue or strain. In chapter 273, Okuni reveals to Masamori that Yoshimori is an extremely rare human being that is compatible with Karasumori and if Karasumori chooses, Karasumori can share his massive 'spiritual reservoir' that has the power potential to destroy the world with Yoshimori.

The main protagonist in Letter Bee. He is a young boy with a very focused mindset, regardless of what situations he gets into and always focuses on delivering the package. He has a special gun called the Shin Ganjuu, literally the "heart bullet gun" where he loads a "fragment of heart" into the gun, then fires it at the target. He is seemingly being able to control the direction of the shot. As a child, he was "delivered" by the letter bee Gauche Suede, and was inspired by him to become a letter bee. He is searching for his mother, who was kidnapped to the capital of the country. His left eye is made of red spirit amber, allowing him to better use the Shin Ganjuu.

His "Dingo" is Niche, a girl he saved from a Gaichuu (armored insect) who decided to stay at his side when he said yes to her asking him if saying goodbye would make him sad after seeing his memories via the Shin Ganjuu.
